[ {{formatDate('2024-06-24T02:59:44.057Z')}}]

The historic Bach Dang River - where the nation's glorious victories were recorded, is now witnessing the country's new construction period as it transforms into a busy trade gateway, connecting Vietnam with Intra-Asia and the world.

Hai Phong is one of the pioneers in the country's port sector. In recent years, Hai Phong has been strongly promoting its strength in port and logistics to strengthen its position. Among them, the Nam Dinh Vu Port Cluster, part of Gemadept's port system in Hai Phong, is growing strongly, making it an important contribution to the country's economic development.

Affirming the position

Nam Dinh Vu's journey started in 2016. After 2 years of construction, on May 7 2018, Phase 1 of the Nam Dinh Vu Port Cluster officially came into operation, marking an important turning point in developing port infrastructure in the Northern region. With a prime location at the river mouth, Nam Dinh Vu Port possesses outstanding advantages in waterway transportation, easily connecting with key industrial areas and neighboring provinces with the Intra-Asia region.

With the strong growth trend of the Intra-Asia route, Phase 1 of Nam Dinh Vu Port was quickly developed to ensure the capacity was optimized. This was also the basis for Gemadept's Board of Directors to decide to start construction on Phase 2 on December 28, 2021, marking a strong transformation, further enhancing the competitive advantage of Nam Dinh Vu Port Cluster.

In May 2023, Nam Dinh Vu Phase 2 was officially put into operation. With phases 1 and 2, the capacity and size of the berth and container yard doubled, allowing the Port to receive up to 5 vessels with a tonnage of up to 48,000 DWT, equivalent to 2,500 - 3,000 TEU. With this expansion, the Nam Dinh Vu Port Cluster becomes a new symbol of the Northern port and logistics industry, gradually becoming the largest and most modern river port in the region.

Reaching new heights

To maximize the potential and advantages of Nam Dinh Vu Port, meeting the growing needs of the market and partner shipping lines, Gemadept continues to invest in developing Phase 3, increasing its capacity to 2 million TEU/year, with a total area of 65 hectares.

Expected to be completed by the end of 2025, Phase 3 of Nam Dinh Vu Port Cluster will not only be an expansion in scale but also an improvement in capacity and service quality. With 7 berths spanning 1.5km, the Port will be capable of receiving the largest container vessels entering the Dinh Vu area in Hai Phong.

At the same time, the Company constantly strives to improve working processes, apply advanced technology, and aim to develop green ports to bring the best experience to customers. In terms of technology development, Gemadept has invested in and deployed SmartPort and SmartGate applications.

SmartPort was a revolution in the port transaction process, helping customers save significant time and costs. Previously, a set of trading orders could take 3 to 4 hours to complete, but with SmartPort, the time has been shortened to only about 10 minutes.

Meanwhile, with the support of artificial intelligence (AI), SmartGate automates the process of authenticating vehicle and container information. Thanks to that, the gate opening/closing time is reduced from 5-7 minutes to only 5-7 seconds. This improvement not only helps increase port operational efficiency but also brings satisfaction to customers and partners. In the coming time, the Company will continue to focus on digital transformation and green development, improving operational efficiency and bringing more benefits to customers, partners, and the community.

The journey of creating sustainable values

Gemadept's journey to build Nam Dinh Vu Port is not simply a story about scale and technology but also a strong declaration of its commitment to sustainable development. Nam Dinh Vu Port, with its strategic location and great potential, is expected to become a driving force for economic growth, creating many job opportunities, and contributing positively to the overall development of the Northern region.

Nam Dinh Vu Port not only focuses on business efficiency but also aims to give back to the community and the environment. The Port has and will be implementing many practical activities to actualize this commitment. Specifically, Nam Dinh Vu Port has organized training courses on greenhouse gas inventory according to ISO 14064-1:2018 standards for employees and periodically conducts greenhouse gas inventory and reporting. In addition, the Port also actively contributes to environmental protection through planting perennial trees on-site, contributing to greening the space and minimizing the impact of climate change.

With steady steps and strategic vision, Gemadept is gradually actualizing the goal of developing a modern, international-standard river port cluster in the North. Nam Dinh Vu Port is not only the pride of Gemadept but also a symbol of the dynamic development of Vietnam's Port and Logistics industry.
