On the morning of October 18, Mekong Logistics, a strategic joint venture between Minh Phu Group – a leading enterprise in Vietnam's seafood industry – and Gemadept – a corporation owning and operating a Port – Logistics ecosystem from North to South, officially commenced construction on the second phase of its Logistics Center in Hau Giang. This event marks a significant milestone, underscoring Mekong Logistics' pioneering position while also opening a new potential chapter for the Mekong Delta’s logistics sector and the global journey of Vietnam’s agricultural and seafood products.

Development of Mekong Logistics

Mekong Logistics was established in 2015 through the partnership of Gemadept Logistics and Minh Phu Group, starting with a state-of-the-art cold storage facility in Hau Giang. Just a year later, the facility went into operation, enhancing the logistics capacity in the region. In 2018, Mekong Logistics achieved a major breakthrough by attracting strategic investment from CJ Group of South Korea, a leader in the fields of food, biotechnology, and logistics. Since its inception, Mekong Logistics has strengthened its market position and significantly contributed to the state budget while providing stable employment for over 120 workers.

Driving Economic Growth in the Mekong Delta

Phase 2 of this project reaffirms Mekong Logistics' strong commitment to developing a modern, integrated logistics center, enhancing the international competitiveness of Vietnamese agricultural and seafood products through initiatives such as:

  • Connecting the Mekong Delta with International Ports through Multimodal Transportation: Mekong Logistics and Gemadept are focusing on developing a model inland waterway transport route using river-sea combined vessels to connect the Mekong Delta with the Cai Mep-Thi Vai deep-sea port cluster. This waterway route offers a fast, convenient, and environmentally friendly solution, enhancing the competitiveness of Vietnam's agricultural and seafood sectors.
  • General Cargo Center: Spanning 4.6 hectares, this facility has advanced systems to meet diverse storage and transportation needs for goods ranging from agricultural products and seafood to consumer goods, optimizing the supply chain.
  • Container Depot: Covering 5 hectares, the depot is designed to ensure optimal safety and efficiency for container storage, contributing to higher productivity and reduced logistics costs.
  • Container Port: With a 200-meter-long berth, the port can accommodate large vessels up to 20,000 DWT, broadening Vietnam’s trade links and bringing Vietnamese goods closer to international markets.

The Mekong Logistics project is more than just an infrastructure development; it’s a testament to Mekong Logistics’ strategic vision to create a complete logistics ecosystem that drives sustainable economic growth in the Mekong Delta region. By optimizing inland waterway transportation and linking the Mekong Delta to an international port network, this initiative aims to cut costs, reduce transit time, and elevate the competitive edge of Vietnamese goods, particularly the region’s primary products: agricultural products and seafood.

Moreover, the project delivers significant socio-economic benefits to Hậu Giang province and the entire Mekong Delta. By attracting investment and creating ample employment opportunities, it directly enhances local living standards and promotes regional economic growth.

Mr. Pham Quoc Long, Deputy CEO of Gemadept Corporation, stated, “Mekong Logistics is committed to supporting the Mekong Delta’s development with comprehensive logistics solutions that are fast, cost-effective, and environmentally sustainable. We aim to enhance the value and global competitiveness of Vietnamese agricultural and seafood products, contributing to bringing Vietnamese brands to the world.
